Cough

Coughing is a defense mechanism of the airways, and treatment must aim to resolve the cause underlying cough—not coughing itself. In this sense, it should be taken into account that coughing is a symptom, not an illness. Its purpose is to eliminate the secretions located within the airways. Asthma and retronasal secretions are two very common causes of chronic cough, which is associated to situations of sinusitis and rhinitis of allergic and infectious origin.
